Consumer expectations and perception of clothing comfort in sports and exercise garments

Purpose Sports garments play an important role in the well-being of athlete by protecting wearer from changing environmental conditions and providing a comfortable feel. Clothing requirements have changed recent years demand for apparel with higher comfort performance has been rising. Hence, purpose this study is to explore consumers’ expectations perception examine how different textiles are perceived consumers provide useful knowledge that allows engineer into fabrics sports garments. Design/methodology/approach This online survey comprised 292 respondents, classified sex, age, nationality physical activity. The respondents were asked total 18 questions through Bristol Online Survey tool expectation, preference clothing comfort, specifically sportswear. Findings Fit closely linked together, both forming part concept. When purchasing online, haptics identified as crucial missing parameter. However, priorities attributes within concept varied according person’s sex nationality. Women put more emphasis on garment fit showed need tactile input, whereas men prioritised physiological descriptors, i.e. properties which facilitate thermoregulation. Furthermore, there increased importance parameters people exercising 10 or hours per week. Finally, it was possible identify common associations preferences textile materials (cotton, polyester, cotton/polyester blend wool). consideration should be taken concerning Originality/value Sex modulating conceptualised feel materials. Therefore, end-consumer considered during development phase particular attention given targeted market these will sold.
